Check valves on my return?

Should I install a check valve on my return?

You can, but remember after time you can get some growth inside that may not allow it to close all the way. You can drill a small hole at the top of your return to suck in air. You can do both to be safe or just one. I ended up opting out of the check valve and drilling holes works great. When you install the check valve do not install it horizontal, install it vertical. It can be at a 45 degree angle just make sure the hinge is at the top so the flap can fall down.

The more you add the more can go wrong, especially when there are moving parts involved.

If you have everything in your dt setup right their is no need for a check valve. Also remember that by adding anything in between the pump and return nozzle also creates head pressure.

That check valve will get coated with scale and will malfunction. When is determined by your water parameters and your GPH.
After enough scale builds up it will prevent it from seating when needed and will end up being useless.

Thank you for the replies. I have been doing some reading and the rule of thumb seems to be the less fittings the better off I am. One less thing to buy at HD tomorrow. Thanks again.

if you really want a check valve do something like the goerge fisher so you can clean it but debre can also cause it to stick.

This is by far the best on the market, from the research that I have done.
