Yellow gonipora

I am interested in a yellow gonipora. I heard that they don't last long is this true
?

most gonioporas do not last much longer than a few months, your best bet is finding one that has been grown out and fragged in captivity, as far as the yellow goes i havnt seen a yellow one my guess is that they arent common at all

Gonipora , alveopora are pretty hard to keep, it's not impossible. Keep it under real good flow so they don't suffocate , feed it with marine snow . You'll have a better chance

I have seen places that sell frags of gonipora or alveopora.
You could try on a smaller piece before committing to a full sized one.

They had 3 pieces in world class aquariums on flatbush in Brooklyn

I've never seen a yellow one. Hard to keep never the less in a small system.

kept a red one for a few months and got rid of it quickly, real PITA. also saw a yellow one at my LFS and it wasnt doing well at all.

I have nice piece n yes I was told they don't live long about a year dats wat I was told bought it at max reef n Yonkers it's doing real good

I just threw out a yellow one, it lasted about a month before it started to die. I try several spots and I feed marine snow at night along with aminos , I have several sps's that are thriving , I haven't lost any piece in along time , accept for the gonipora . My honest opinion it's one of those corals that shouldn't be allowed to be collected, all though very beautiful but just too hard to keep. I probably am the one that said it won't live for more than a year and I was probably sugar coating that . It's like I said to some if your not dosing don't expect to keep a milliepora , and some will just ignore and go right ahead and try anyway. I knew better about the gonipora but I thought why not try the yellow never try that before .. Waste of money and a life .

Are you sure that they are not dyed? If the calcium skeleton is yellow also, they are probably dyed.

But I have never heard of dyed Goniopora though.. Hope that is not the case.

If it's a real colour, they are for sure wonderful.

Edit: I've kept a few goniopora for a few years now. But thats one pink and one red. I have a few friends that has kept green ones for several years, but I have never seen green ones thrive in small systems.

Saw some yellow ones at Aqaurium Village today.
Really colorful.

Goni's have been studied for as long as I have been in the hobby (just over 20 years) One thing they suspect(ed?) is that they don't come from the reef proper, therefore, they need "dirtier" water and lots of water flow. I also seem to recall it suggested that they do better in planted tanks.

I don't think that coral was always yellow. I think its a bleached out green one.

+1...IMO many (if not all) of the super bright yellow corals, presently available at LFS are dyed... and yes the 'skeletons' are yellow

This is the reason given to explain why they lived longer in systems many years ago. Same as elegance. Who knows for sure, but when I see these in a store I just assume it will slowly regress and die within a few months.

The yellow gonipora is dyed, looks beautiful but not natural and very hard to keep. I have also heard the same info about them coming from dirtier water.
