Alrighty, so I'm setting up a 26gal bowfront reef, not drilled, unfortunately, and I'm unsure of when I'll be able to build a stand that'll hold a sump, but its in the works.

For now, would a hob skimmer, hob fuge and cabon/GFO reactors be good enough? Planning to go with a mostly LPS dominant setup.

I wouldn't spend money on HOB equipment if you plan on upgrading and getting a sump soon...

I'm looking at maybe 8 months to a year before i'll be able to add a sump, lots to do and room to make, plus building the stand and sump, and i already have everything but the fuge. Just wanted to know if these would do for the filtration for now.

I had also kinda rushed myself and started with a canister filter. The one thing I can tell you is that I regretted it. If you plan on drilling the tank for the sump do it now because breaking down and starting over is no fun. Just my .02

For an LPS dominant tank a HOB skimmer and carbon/GFO reactors would be fine. You can even run a very nice tank without the skimmer by doing WC's every 2 weeks, the 3-5g water change should be simple. Just don't overfeed and make sure the tank isn't overstocked to minimize your waste. Its a balancing game.

But if your going to spend the time and $$ building a stand and setting up the tank, you might as well go all the way and do things the right way. It will save you time and energy in the long run and give you more options. Get yourself set up with an overflow and run a sump, spend the time now doing all of it instead of later when you have to break down, maybe change the stand, ect to get the options you want.

Thanks, I might as well just head over to Home Depot today and pick up some 2x4s and get it started. Already have the 10 gal and acrylic for the sump build, so just some 2x4s and sheeting is all that's needed..well, and a place to put it, lol.
