Hi hope all had a great Christmas, I was wondering what brand do you guys like of tank. I was thinking marineland, I see most of you go rimless. I want a good strong tank that I will enjoy for quite sometime until I decide to upgrade, do they make cherry wood color. My size Im still planning is a 150 gallon, my tv furniture is cherry wood color nice unit, I want a good tank to match color doesn't have to be 100%. And I'm going to shop at vendors here, I'm planning to visit av see what style they have prices as well. So any opinions comments feel free. thanks

Most tank companies are good. I like Deep Blue tanks a lot, I also really like Marineland/Perfecto. I just got a 90G Deep Blue.

To answer your question about cherry stands they make a few colors. There's oak, pine, red oak which mine is and black are usually available from most companies. Here's my new tank thread for the 90G upgrade. It's probably pretty close to what you want if not dead on color wise for the stand/canopy.

I hear ya, it's normal to have the jitters but don't be nervous. This is the fun part, building it. Yeah lighting will be fine under a canopy. The back is always open in them. They're only 3 sided.

Thanks for the compliment on the color. Just in case you're wondering. It's a marineland Monterey red oak stand. You can mix tank/stand companies without issues. Each size tank has the same footprint regardless of company. The only time there are different footprints is when you get to 150's and such where there are standard and long where they change the heights which effect the lengths. But for a 90 and down they're all the same dimensions from company to company.

Enjoy your build.

You're welcome. You'll be just fine just follow advice that seems sound to you. I like LED's, that's what I converted my RSM250 to and am getting LED fixtures for the new tank.

The number depends on your fixtures- their length and what optics you have on them spread wise(60,70 or 80 degree). The larger that number the more spread but less penetration at depth(sandbed level). The smaller the deeper you'll have better PAR ratings but you can get a bit of spotlighting in a sense where its more concentrated straight under each individual LED.

For my 90(48 inch tank) Im going with 2 18 inch fixtures.

Hey! Jimmy knows his stuff! And I agree with everything he said!( almost :P) lolll

Well I have LEDs to on my 90 mark land perfecto, but deep is great too!
I can 2 18" acan LEDs! For a 150 it's tricky cuz it depends with what foot print u get( long, tall)

If you have the tank already and it's not reef ready yours forced to use overflow boxes. If that's the case definitely go with an internal. There will be less issues that can arise than with an external where it needs to maintain a siphon in a u tube going over the top of the tank.

If you don't have the tank yet go reef ready. If you have the chance to do it and you buy a standard tank and put an overflow in time you'll wish you went reef ready when you had the chance.

Look into the marineland majesty stands, they are a bit pricier but nicer than any other commercial stand avaliable IMO. Also I would personally go with a Marineland tank as well over the Deep Blue, if you like the black silicone look of the Deep Blue, you can order the Marineland that way. I have had both brands and I was not to fond of my Deep Blue, not to mention I hear more stories about deep blue seams letting go, than I do with other brands. If you do go with Deep Blue, I would highly recommend a different tank than a Deep Blue ans also better bulkheads than what they come with.

You can buy a lot of used stuff on here, what size 150 are you going with? The 6 footer or 4 footer? For lighting suggestions there will be many opinions as to what is good and bad. I personally use MH/T5 on one tank and all T5's on the other. I had LEDs and will never buy them again except for supplement lighting. As for skimmers I always go with Reef Octopus skimmers. You need to do a little research on what type of sump you plan on running and if you want an in sump skimmer, in sump pump as well. A 150 is still small enough for an Ehiem 1262 to run, but only as a return pump, I wouldn't plumb anything else off of it.
