You have to decide what you like. It doesn't help what others like. I happen to like acans. But zoas give you a much larger variety if colors. And even mushrooms have some really interesting color combinations. If you have a small tank you will have less problems if you keep to one or two types of coral. They do fight each other by giving off chemicals that you can not see and that causes most of the coral problems.

I like the acans i was wondering if they are easy to keep since the tank is young.if not i would get something easier to care for. I knew the zoas and mush were easy i took a chance on the monti it was a good price and also one of my favorites.im still learning so i figure the monti would clue me in to a potential problem that i might not catch fast enough since the other corals are more forgiving.i notice since i programed the mp10 on tidal mode the coral is really looking good.i didnt want to bet a acan and it melts in a day or two.personally i kind of like a little of everything so it dont matter what i get i just want toavoid the real sensitive stuff for now.i was just getting conflicting info on the acans.the tank has been stable for now diatoms went away low nitrates and phos so i think im heading in the right direction.i been hearing the acans can be fairly easy so i wanted to know if some are more stronger than others.its hard to resist some of these corals As they are so eyecatching.

In any group of corals there are going to be some that grow like crazy, others that don't and some that just melt away without us being able to figure out why. In general the softies are the easiest but I find that LPS as a rule are pretty easy. You don't have to feed them but if you do they do much better. Some say acans belong at the bottom but I have them all over. Some do better at the top and others lower down. When buying corals the color you see in the store or in someones tank may not be how it will look in your tank. The lighting makes a big difference and this is especially true with acans. Also acans will at times change colors from a really nice color to drab. But once they get used to their new home they should color up again. This can be true even in the same tank but a new position.
