PVC elbow overflow cover?

Can anyone give me any suggestions as to how I can get a cover or make a cover for the overflow so fish don't get sucked down to my sump? See pics down below.

if thats 1", brs carries strainers. i wouldn't put a flat cover. you run a risk of it clogging.

+1 get a strainer from bulkreefsupply. Com or a lfs. I'm pretty sure glass-holes.com has them to

aquacave has them... shipping is 4.95. might be the about the same price at the lfs if you only need 1 or 2.
