Hi Everyone

When I set up my tank I read that the live rock should be centered in the tank, not touching any sides to allow flow all around it. Alot of the tank pictures posted here it looks like the live rock isn't centered and is against one or more tank walls. Is that just how it looks in the picture or are there other ways to set up your live rock?

A lot of people including myself put the love rock against back glass and clear of the other three sides.
This allows you to leave large open spaces in center of mound for fish and invertebrate to hide.

Rock walls used to be more popular, but IMO it's not the best way to go. When the majority of the rock is touching the back wall, it greatly impedes flow, and I can only imagine the detritus that builds up back there. I always leave at least an inch in between all 4 walls of the tank.

Regarding the center, left side, right side etc.... That's a mix of your personal opinion, tank size, tank shape, and inhabitants.

It's most of a personal preference but like it was already said you do want to have a nice flow around the whole tank because you never know what's building up behind there. I have my rock in the center of my tank like an arch shape. Just a quick tip - leave enough room inbetween the rock and wall for your magnafloat. I can't get to one little spot and it drives me nuts lol

If you only leave enough room for a mag cleaner to pass; then where is the room for corals to grow? Rock piles against the back are a bad thing of the past; ok, a piece or two is doable, but not the whole stack. Leave as much room as you can on all sides!

I'm in the process of building a very unique aquascape for my own tank.every branch will have live rock attached to it and will also be staggered so every piece of live rock(platform) will get the light it needs.and as many know different corals require different intensity of lights so there will be different levels.this will fit perfectly in my 34 solana and not touch any glass.its not complete yet as I still have a few more branches to put on.basically it will look like a bonsai tree from any angle.this is just a mock up as I make a mold of this
