Hey MR,
i have few question about ZOAS, i am sure theres some zoa expert here that can chime in. i got couple frags of zoas thats growing new heads every few week. however, the polyps has shrunk in size. any reason? some of them even have their skirts down (no their not chicks dont get too excited). i didnt have any die offs. i think its too much light? radion pro running 70% max for 2 hours then runs around <50 percent at 20k for 6 hour.

posted some pics throw ur ideas at me

tank parameter:
76-78degrees
8.2-8.4ish ph
cal at 420
alk 7.6
mag at 1400
phos - 0
No3 - 0

lets get your discussion going! :flower:

they have always been under radion. i dont put my hands in the water (only my finger tip when i decided to pet my clownfish LOL.

I've noticed that in lower light, mine extend more and their skirts to fall back a bit.
so your saying the skirts will fall back like shown in the picture when there is not enough light? i though it will be opposite.

and i am not a coral feeding guy. the only thing i feed is my nem.

i will try to dirty my water as much as possible while keeping the sps happy :irked:

I don't notice any changes in size based off your pictures ...

I have my tank which is primarily zoas/palys at 81degrees with a kessil 350w 100%blue 40%white.

I noticed when the polyps on the frag are small the ones it grows are same size additionally when I get larger "adult" polyps the babies grow to a larger size. My rastas for example I got with 3 heads now it has 11, they're all small heads more juicier then when I bought them but still not as big as I have seen.

i moved my red pe to a spot with more shades. it have the biggest polyp and best color. i really think its the intensity of the light. i will move my frag rack this week into shades. lets give this alittle experiment :spin:

do you know the reason of skirt drop like shown in picture with yours?

Make sure you dont do a big Difference in chage with lighting and flow with the zoas, This can stress them and maybe make them Melt or get Really stressed out. If there is a way to just move the frag rack down a bit, You should do that first how long has this been happening? it happens sometimes for me the skirts peel back, Might be cause there trying to catch food better, Doesnt look like there skrinking to me. Maybe too much light? How long have you had them there in that spot??

maybe i am bugging but i swear my gobstopper is bigger when i first got them =D. but i do notice the big polyp will get smaller when a baby is about to pop out. i will try lowering the rack as that sounds easier than moving the whole rack. i have them in that spot for good 6 weeks i say. the skirts always down for my AODevil and once a while it will look like a normal polyp for a day and it drops again.

you think too much flow might cause this problem? i have two mp10 at 60% and the rack sits 5 inch below 1 of the mp10.

i do like to see fatter polyp. mines are so skinnyyyy arrrR!!!!!

Well wehn polyps do grow on the plug and start to take off with babies the polyps get smaller me and my girlfriend noticed that cause When she had one huge pink zipper polyp on The frag plug and the pulg got grown to about 10-15 polyps the polyps got allot smaller.

so i moved my rack down about an inch or so. notice the polyps look bigger than b4. but still skinny. i will skip this water change to build up some nutrient and see if it will help. maybe i will do 1x water change a month.

Just make sure you watch your other corals how they react and make sure if your gonna go to 1X a month water change test your water. If you have any SPS dont wanna make anything change too much on what your doing good already on. No what i mean.
