New Tank

Hey guys, i have a 150 gallon tank all set up, i have a few zoos, 3 fish and a few snail, but I'm getting a lot of brown spots in the tank, what should i do?

Make sure you are using RODI water and just be patient. They'll go away once all the silicates are used up and burn themselves out.

Goby and Snails will be good for that...
I used to have a Golden Head Sleeper Gobie that was all day sifting the sand... Kept it turned over and clean!
Other things work as well but sometimes so slow...

Could always go for a sea cucumber as well. I've always had one and they're definitely in it for the long term.

it is common especially on a new system and getting a diatom bloom, how long has the tank been running ? was the rock live or did it hit air at all ? are you using a skimmer ? are you running carbon or phosban ?

I have a protein skimmer. The tank has been running for 2 months but the lights are only in for a week. I used dead rock. But live sand

you will get these cycles in the tank for about 2 years i would say. it is common and just let it run it's coarse,

If you want to really solve this problem, find the root of it. Check your phosphates. I would highly recommend a reactor from Bulkreefsupply and running GFO in it.

That has nothing to do with diatoms.
They are produced from excess silicates, usually occurring in new tanks, from water, un cured plastics, etc..

Phosphate removers will do nothing for this.

No, diatoms are not dangerous
A very young, non stable tank will though.
