it is common especially on a new system and getting a diatom bloom, how long has the tank been running ? was the rock live or did it hit air at all ? are you using a skimmer ? are you running carbon or phosban ?

If you want to really solve this problem, find the root of it. Check your phosphates. I would highly recommend a reactor from Bulkreefsupply and running GFO in it.


That has nothing to do with diatoms.
They are produced from excess silicates, usually occurring in new tanks, from water, un cured plastics, etc..

Phosphate removers will do nothing for this.
