So with my mother-in-law having an interest in hermit crabs etc I've decided to set up a small tank with a few of them in it. As I don't want to go hardcore with lighting and such as it isn't really esential if they are fed supplementally, I wanted to make a cool fixture similar to this one to make it a little steampunk-ish. (might go PVC just to avoid rust etc)

It would be slightly modified depending on where the tank would be sitting and such. Kind of wanted to add a cage to the outside of it as well and maybe a not super strong E27 bulb. If I wanted to keep things consistently black, can I use a heat resistant spray paint to turn the commonly silver/aluminum heat sink black without causing too much of a problem?
