I am planning on setting up a refugium tank for my main tank, which is 120 gal. I would appreciate any feedback on how large a refug tank I should consider and what most people put in their refug tank besides live sand and live rock, which I will include. I am setting this up to reduce the amount of nitrates I am getting in the main tank. As well as growing copepods for the manderinfish I am going to get...someday. Other benefits????

Thanks in advance

A refuguim should be located slightly above the main so that you can pump water up into it and then gravity drain back into the main, this way, anything that grows in there (amophods) will not get chewed up by a pump.

This said, how big can you go, what would look good, will you be seeing it when you look at the main? These are the kind of things to consider, if it is in a seperate room, you could easily go crazy with it.

Some people actually have more volume in the sump and refugium than in the main tank

IF you can't raise it above the main tank, don't worry. Even the dead critters get eaten and many survive the trip. Fuge are a great thing to add to a tank. Get as large as you can fit, afford, etc. Size does matter. ;)
