155 gal. reef- regal tang, tiger gobi, Rainford's gobi. They have been in the main tank together, following quar. together, since Aug. 1. I would now like to add (5) small chromis. Is (5) a good number? We see schools of these when we are diving. and they seem to have that true "reef" look. Has anyone seen any behavioral differences between the two? (green or blue/green). We have seen the blue/green in the lfs, but not the green. Thank you in advance. Dawn.

Don't expect them to school in your tank. Without knowing actual taxonomic name (genus and species) it's difficult to be exact with opinions, especially when considering common names used in differing regions. To the best of my knowledge, the terms "green" and "blue/green" are used interchangeably for the same fish.

I want chromis too but need some info.

I have a 55 gallon reef tank with some corals. I only have 2 fish for now(blenny/6-line) but I want to add some smaller reef friendly fish so I immediately thought of chromis cuz I HATE DAMSELS!!

How many of these bad boys can I add to my 55 reef?

Sorry if I invaded your thread friend....

The green chromis is aka as blackaxil chromis (chromis atripectoralis), the blue/green chromis (chromis viridis). I have seen them in small groups together, that is why I said school, in at least (3) lfs reef tanks, therefore I hope for the same effect in my tank. Also Ilike the fact that they like to be in the upper part of the water column.

I think they would look cool in your tank! I think I might get like 3 of them and put em in my 55 gallon reef....

LOL!  Damsels they are!
Funny thing about chromis, in all my years of doing this, I haven't kept them until recently. Ha! I now have a mixed school (chromis atripectoralis, chromis viridis) in my in-wall 150, and they are among my favorite fish! They school together just fine. Talk about bang for the buck.

While we're on the topic - has anyone had any experience with Black & White Chromis (Chromis iomelas)?

I should probably post something in the main forum too...

I've kept "Blue Reef Chormis" (don't know the latin)
for years. Very peaceful fish. Chormis in general
seem to behave better than other damsels.

green/blue green chromis are pretty docile. I have 2 in my 20 nano, and they seem to stick with each other. they even seem to coexist quite nicely with my yellow tail damsel.

Jim, how many do you have? Do you notice any difference between the two? Where I dive, I see brown and blue- both swim and act differently. The blue kind of dart swim, while the brown, similar in looks to the blue/ green, swim the same as the blue green.

We have 3 green chromis (look more blue than green to me) in our 55 gal. There always hanging out together, cool fishes.
