ok im having a dsb then.i can skip the wet dry right?im planning to have a 200gph hang on the back aquaclear.is this filter really necessary?i can add more live rock in lieu of the filter then.im not sure about making a dsb.can u guys tell me how one makes a low maintenance fool proof dsb?
also wat about macros.how can i grow them in the tank?do i need a refugium?
A refugium is where you have your DSB with macro algaes. I suggest you spend some money on some books on the subject, "The Natural Marine Aquarium--Reef Invertebrates" is one, and do a search on this site, as many others have asked these very same questions and I can't remember the books suggested (but the list is very good).
What I eventually plan on doing is scrapping a filter and just using a good skimmer on my 29 gal. will-be reef. It seems weird to me, since I went through freshwater first and a filter was the # 1 or #2 peice of equipment.
