I will only put LR in the sump if there is no space in the main tank, and I don't need the space in the sump. If you leave the sump empty, it is easier to clean up, particular for sand.

Last time I did was when I setup my tank... why?

Actually, if there are sand in it, when I turn off my pump and restart it, it will jet up all the sand because there is no partition in the sump.

dude, all lot of people are even now creating 'cryptic zones' in their system....in the sump or fuge to try and promote 'cryptic' life..whatever that may be...i would say you should at least have a few chunks in the sump if nothing else.....you could even setup a refugium down there...some studies have shown that pods and such have a great survivability rate when exposed to propeller shear....depends on who you ask....i say go for it!!
