Hello, what fish foods do you prefer to feed your fish (example: mysis, krill, cyclops, formula one/two, etc) and in what form (example: frozen, flake, freeze-dried, etc)?

Do you purchase your foods online or from store fronts?

Thanks to everyone who answers, hopefully everyone will :)

I am very new to salt water tanks, but in my 10g I have 1 clown, a sandsifter star, and a turbo snail and I use marine flake food.

Everyone seems to be happy and their colours are good too.

I alternate flake with a variety of frozen (brine shrimp, blood worms, formula 1).

I buy my fish food at the LFS.

Do any of you order online at all, if not, why?

Any others wish to answer the original questions, please? :)

Thank you

I create a seafood hash by blending shrimp, scallops, mussels, and clams together with a food processor. I press this out in a Ziploc freezer bag and freeze it in the form of a giant wafer (which I can easily break pieces off of for feedings). I hang dried seaweed from a clip, break off a little piece of Cyclopeeze, and drop in some spirulina flakes when I’m walking by. I’m too lazy to condition the food with supplements, and hope I’m tagging all the bases by mixing it up.

I think stores are good to get from unless there isnt a LFS or chain around then you might have to resort to the net..other than that i dont think you'll save a whole lot once shipping is included...

Unless you buy in bulk, I think the LFS is best as well. I use frozen brine shrimp, a mix of macro algae, and a pellet (New Life Spectrum). Pellets are good to ensure the critters that hang out at the bottom get some chow.

Yes because I wanted greater exposure in diversity; however, only in two sections so too much space isn't taken up :)

OK, I know of the popular brands such as Ocean Nutrition, San Francisco Bay Brand, Hikari, etc, but what are your opinions on foods created by Fish King (Frank Suerth)? He is regarded as high quality, but then again are you still prone to brand names based on popularity or is nutritional content just as valued? I'm just curious to see if only the mainstream brands are what you're willing to purchase...

Avoid brine, please you guys. A treat is ok, but it's like Pringles for fish. Get Selcon and use it. Get as many different fresh foods for your fish as you can, and feed these to them regularly (as often during the week as you can afford). Buy these foods from the supermarket, you really do want restaurant quality food going into them and you WON'T be guaranteed to get it buying from the LFS. The manufacturer may do all they can to ensure it's best quality, but unless you're positive your local shop is following safe food handling procedures then you can't be positive that's what is going into your fish.

In my own opinion, nutrition is just as important as water when keeping any animal.

Hikari, Ocean Nutrition are good brands.

I feed OSI flake, brine once a week as a treat (fun to see all the little critters fo nuts), and finely, finely diced salmon from the store. I have some diced a bit larger for the bubble tips. It is the only food that they love like candy. I have just assumed that salmon would be good for these guys as it has lots of nutritional value for humans (omega 3, various vitamins, etc.). You can also get trimmings from the seafood depatment as they prepare the cuts, fillets, etc. Ironically, the only squid I have seen in any local grocery, was in the seafood department but in small lettering was marked "Not for human consumption." I thought that that was interesting. Didn't buy it either.
