I have about a dozen little crabs that look a lot like emerald crabs - with the exception that they are red...

I apologize for not having a pic... but to better describe them: They are like the emeralds in having furry legs, but non-furry body/pincher legs, and flattened pinchers. They are mostly quite small (largest has a body circumference of about 2.5cm). I don't know if it helps in ID'ing, but rather than having a random "bubbly" look on it's carapace, the bumps and bubbles form several nested V's... they have yet to cause any damage (I did see one picking at some corraline, and another picking at a macroalgae).. and are not at all shy - they happily run out of their hiding spots waving their claws in the air when the turkey baster hits the water.

Any thoughts on what it *might* be are greatly appreciated!

There are some red "emerald" crab.

I call them red bastards instead of green gastards. Killed 4 of my baby T. max. clams right in front of my very eyes! :(

I think they are red crabs..Ive never heard of them refered to as red "emerald"...Since "emerald" is being refered to the crabs color...But they might bear similar appearances.... :)
