In the 12 years I've been keeping marine fish I've maintained my tanks at anywhere from 76 - 82. The last few years I've been keeping them around 79-80. To be honest, I haven't really noticed any big differences.

IMO/IME temp stability is more important than the actual number (although a small or gradual temp swing doesn't seem to be a big problem either). I mainly just try to avoid large/rapid temp swings as it seems to be stressful to the fish.

FWIW, I agree completely with Chris. I have slowly raised my temp over the past few years from 75 to 81...and haven't noticed any differences. If I made that change over a few days, I'm not sure I could say that. :D

I keep my tank 80-82 with some spikes up to 85 from time to time. I have not had any problems.
