1/4hp is plenty big for a 150 if you need to drop it less than 10 degrees. I have experience with JBJ Artica....great chillers, small footprint, quietest on the market.
Most brands are fairly similar -- you want one that is a single controller (unless you want it to control heating as well), in-line (as opposed to drop-in: chiller produce mondo heat...doesn't make a lot of sense to add an additional heat source to a tank unless you can easily vent it off somehow), titanium heat exchanger (more efficient/supposedly decr. brown algae growth that seems to have become popular with some prior chillers on the market)...etc...
John - Where did you purchase the JBJ? How low can it drop your tank vs the size? I'm in Texas and I can already see my 125 reef getting to warm and it's not even May yet.
i've got an order in to pet solutions for 1/5 hp artica chiller at a sale price until end of month it seemed to be a good price when i checked other distributors ed(lmracer)
Sorry it took me so long to respond. I think you'll like the JBJ. The only way I can really tell it's on is the fact that my room warms up. I have to plumb it down to my basement but haven't had the time yet!
Lemme know what you think about it...1/5hp should be sufficient for your tank..unless you have no A/C and your house is 90 degrees all the time..
thanks john, i have a/c (live in fl , just north of tampa) house stays at 74-76 deg. tank running at 80 -83 so i just need 5-7 deg or less do-able i hope have used ice up till now but summer is not here thanks again ed
I second the CSL inline 1/4hp chiller. Should be able to find a good deal out there w/shipping. The Medusa dual controller is also excellent but you can upgrade the CSL to dual usually.
