After much thought and research this is my proposed lighting setup for my 120 gal. 48"x24"x24" tank. Before my final purchase I would like to get some feed back and opinions.

Icecap 4 bulb x 48" VHO Retro Kit W/660 Ballast
2 - PFO 250W pulse start ballasts with Spider light reflectors
2 - 250W 10K AB MH bulbs.
PFO Moonlight (Should you use 1 or 2?)
2 - Icecap 4" Fans

I need to mount this inside my existing canopy. Any ideas on configuration would be appreciated. Thanks.

Everything looks good to me. One moonlight is recommended, but it doesn't really make a big difference. You can also consider PFO parallel reflectors; they tested really well in studies, better then spiderlights IIRC.

As for your existing canopy, the only way this could all fit it is at least 8-9" tall, with 12-15" preferred. Some people mount the VHOs to the top of the lid with clips (readily available online) and others rest the bulbs on the tank or on a shelf built into the canopy located below the reflectors.

Here's a crude diagram of what I meant by shelf ....

Thanks for the reply and drawing Len. I'm a little discouraged now as I only have 7" from the top of the canopy to the top of the tank. Any other scenario without having to build a new canopy that could work. Thanks.
