Hi,

Question for all you clownfish owners. I have a false clown pair. The female clown has a white bump directly under her chin. Does not look like ick because the bump is really quite pronounced. She doesn't look stressed about it nor sick. But I'm worried that the bump under her chin is some kind of illness even though she doesn't act like it. She's had it for a month now. I've had her for about two months.

Anyone have any idea?

A lot of possibilties come to mind such as a worm infestion, a bacterial infection, or genetic "defect." Honestly, there's not much you can do in this case since diagonsis i nearly impossible, so I'd just care for the clownfish to the best of your abilities. It might be nothing to worry about.

If the bump grows or the fish looks irritated/sick, then I'd move it to a QT tank and start by treating with some broad spectrum antibiotics.

Well, just as an update.

The bump has gotten pretty large. It is about the size of a pen tip. I decided to try a couple of freshwater dips over three days for 10 minutes each. The bump has not fallen off or changed in any way. She is alright and doesn't seem to bothered with the dips.

I hope she doesn't die from this.
