Controllers and monitors

What is the concensous of using electronic Controllers and Monitors to check the PH levels and Water levels? Anyone recommend a brand or hobbyist?
Ideally, I'm looking for a device that can send me an email Alert should the water level rise or fall. Unfortunately, I am using a Mac with OSX, so this could be a problem. Never again do I want to pay my landlords hundreds of dollars towards water damage... that lesson was very painful indeed

IMO, a better strategy is to design a system that can't flood. I don't have any real experience with controllers that have a paging/email function so maybe someone else can help out.

AquaDyne and Neptune are two company that come to mind. Check out their specs, and discuss your application with the companies or its authorized resellers, such as PremiumAquatic, MarineDepot, and others.

As Chris said, it is better to find out why it flooded last time, and do something about it instead of waiting for it to flood again, and be 50 miles away when the pager ring.... an oz. of prevention is worth more than a pound of treatment, or something along that line :?

I agree with Chris & Loule that the best defense is to design your system so that the risk of a flood is at a minimum! I unplugged my system just to make sure that the sump would handle the extra water that will drain back down if I had a power failure. I also added filter screens around any overflows to help keep out any snail’s or other little critters that tend to block the water flow. As an added option you could add one of THESE that would shut off your pump if something blocked the overflow! However as I stated before make sure that the sump can handle the extra water. Also you will need to make sure that everything will start back up when the power comes back on! Some over the side overflow boxes will need to have the siphon restarted once they lose power.

As for getting a call or page if the water level raises or falls you could wire in sensors to a AutoDialer that will call a preset phone number if something sets it off. I have one of these built into a burgler alarm that will call my cell phone if there is a breakin or the power goes off.

This type of FLOAT SWITCH should be able to be wired into the auto dialers?
