Curious, one of my LTA's moved itself 2" away from my powerhead in direct flow of it, ideas as to why? now its moving more up to the top of the tank as well.....Ive had my PC for about a year, would it really be important to get new bulbs now if i want to maximize the unit?

Sometimes anemones move like that when they aren't happy in the place that they are at. If your PC's are a year old you'll probably want to get new ones as PC's tend to have about a year life span.

BTW....Welcome to Reefs.org! :D

yes, this one hasnt moved around in a long time. I did a water change last week, but other than that i dont know why anything would cause it to want to seek out a better spot..no big deal, im just trying to finally ask some questions on here...thanks for your welcome!

Lens response pretty much answered why your BTA is moving higher. Your pc bulbs are expiring, or have expired (they don't stop putting out light just because they have expired-it's an impercievable difference to the human eye, however, to the BTA, it is very noticeable). I'd start with new pc bulbs, to which your anemone would respond by traveling back down the tank to its original height level.

IN MY EXPIERIENCE with BTA'S I have had 3 I still have 2,The first one stayed put for 9 months. ThenI reaquascaped and he went (on the move) well, he never settled again. My mistake: reaquascaping and disturbing his"footing", he never recooperated and soon after 2 weeks of movin around he died! The second 1 I got 1 month ago so far he just moved today in fact, about 2" over from his original spot where I placed him.Im keepin a close eye on him and hoping he doesnt wander any further.I have a new 400 watt M/H bulb that I replaced about 6 weeks ago so I am confident it's not a lighting issue. The 3rd BTA is in a seperate tank with a mated pair of false percula's and that tank is only 5 weeks old and the BTA was just added last weekend he's already eaten for me which is great but the clown's did not take to their new host yet,I'm patiently waiting and keeping my fingers crossed on both BTA's and ther overall health and survival.I hope this helps!! :)
