Okay, my tank is now 9 months old. 55 gal, 3-4 sand bed, seaclone skimmer, 4 damsels, 1 percula clown, 2 cleaner shrimp, mushrooms, galaxia about 5" in diameter, button polyps, about a 3" brain coral, and about 55 lbs of live rock with sand stone base rock. Everything seems cool i guess but it just doesnt seem like it is everything it could be. I dose once a week with Tech M, calcium, strontium and phytoplex. I have one 48" coralife 50/50 and one 48" actinic 03 blue both 40 watts. The mushrooms are okay they really spread out, the brain coral seems okay, the button polyps all come out and the galaxia looks really good, but I have a black and white striped damsel that likes to blow the sand and it gets everywhere. In some spots the algea on the rock is covered and there is a fine film on some spots, can this be cleaned off so the coraline will grow better, or get rid of the damsel, or what. I see other tanks and the red and purple algea is so beautiful and clean. someone suggested getting a blennie, he would help keep the rock clean. also i have heard that the seaclone skimmer is not a good skimmer, but it foams its butt off and i empty about 1/2" of that yellow green stuff out of the cup every couple days. Is it not working properly. I adjusted the air so there are no fine bubbles going back into the tank. Any input on this would be appreciated. I also have some snails that apparently came with my liverock, and I have 2 hermit crabs. thanks once again. If i can get some clear photos I will post them. :D

You might want to get some test kits and check for nitrate, alkalinity and calcium. That way you will know for sure if your calcium additions and skimmer are doing the trick. You can also add a couple of powerheads to increase the flow in your tank.

My first thought is circulation. If you've got any 'dead spots' behind/under your live rock, it might be trapping detritus and helping your algae along.
