Am I doing right

Howdy

Ok here we go, read the Reef Builders Orientation talk with several and here is what I'm gonna do. Found a real nice seventy five gallon tank and stand with lights. I am going to buy a Empiror 1000 turn 400 gallons an hour, power head for circulation, fourty pounds of this coarser sand I like the way it looks, gonna try to beat the dealer out of a live rock and twenty pounds of live sand.

If I'm following this proceedure, as I understand it, I will wait a month or so untill I add a algea eater package. After water test of coarse. Two weeks later a fish or two.

Is this what I want to do? Am I missing any iportant steps?

Depends what type tank you are going for. I am no expert, but many would suggest a skimmer and more than just a single piece of live rock. BTW, Welcome and many on this site can offer a much broader spectrum of info!

Steps sound fine. Slow and steady wins the race.

However, coarser sand (like crushed coral) is not the best habitat for sessile animals. It's not bad, mind you, but it'll limit biological diversity. Finer aragonite is better.

A protein skimmer is also a good idea to add in the future. That and a reverse osmosis filter for your tapwater. These two equipment are highly recommended and will make your life a lot easier.
