So I just made the transfer to a 75gal setup with a 20 gal sump. This sump was not my original idea, instead I had planned on a 55 gal tank being divided into 3 smaller tanks for a sump, refugium, and small frag propagation tanks. Unfortunatly, I had a small design flaw and after fixing it the 55 wouldn't fit, so I used a 20 instead and now I am happy, ok the water is flowing atleast. But now I don't know what to do about the fuge and prop tanks. I was thinking about using 2 5.5gal tanks and having them drilled at my lfs. they only charge $6 a hole if you buy the tank from them and at that size they are pretty comprable in pricing. close enough that I save money on the drilling. I was going to use one as a small fuge and the other I was going to let double as a quarintine and propogation tank. Now don't go and bite my head off for that last sentence. I will have the ability to disconnect the propogation tank and run it independent of the entire closed loop setup that I currently have. I am planning on building a micro version of an ecosystem filter to run on the tank when I use it for quarintine. Once the quarintine period is over, I dump the filter media, the water and do a little cleaning, and then its back to the roll of the propogation tank. I am not planning on any hardcore propogation, obviously I would only have a 5.5 gal to play with, but would this be large enough for some softies and shrooms so that I can trade with some buddies. I have a group of friends and we all made the leap to saltwater about the same time so they are very interested in the ecological economy of us trading rather than buying. Also is a 5.5 a big enough refugium for my setup? I was going to run a single 13 watt pc 50/50 bulb over each 5.5tank for lights. Will this work, or do I need to bit the coolness bullet and go with a 10 gal fuge, a 20 sump and do something else for the quarintine. My only reason for multitasking the prop/quarintine is that I have no free space or money to have 2 tanks since I will only be using each one a small portion of the time. Plus I could leave it running on my main setup and when I need to quarintine something the water conditions would be identical to those in my system. So the big question is....
Will the 2 5.5 gallon tanks perform as I want them to or are they just two small?
