got a 55 gal. 9 months old. put a new bubble tipped anomone and a toadstool leather in 3 days ago along with a galaxea and noticed i have about 0.25 nitrites. does this mean mini cycle or what. did a 25% water change and no change. very little ammonia about 0.05 and nitrates are about 7 ppm. calcium is about 450 to 500. what else can i do. corals and inverts look fine so far. fish seem to be doing well also. :)

forgot to mention the bubble tipped anomone moved from the rock it came on from the lfs and into a cave made from liverock and is hanging upside down, and the foot seems to have enveloped the whole body. is it sick??

Anytime you add livestock to a tank, you induce a mini-cycle while your bacterial population adjusts to the new bioload. Usually, in a fully cycled tank, you wouldn't see it. My test kit won't see it, anyway...

All anemones, at some point, shrink and expel wastes. Maybe your anemone is, umm, eliminating?

I really don't think the additions you placed in your tank had anything to do with a change in your water chemistry. I would think that it came from another source like over feeding. IMO We would have to know much more about your tank, test kits, and your experience reading them.

heres some advise..keep an eye on the anemone...they're very fragile...how long did you acclimate it??? it folding inside out is probably just a response to change in enviroment and or stress...

You mentioned the anemone moved from the "rock" it came on. How big was that rock, and any others the corals came in on? Maybe they were big enough to cause a mini cycle with the die off you get from moving live rock.

i figured it was stress. anyway it came back up to the top of a rock and my percula took to it like duck to water, or fish to water for that matter. the rock it came on is about the size of a softball. it moved under a larger rock which housed my banded coral shrimp. it got cozy for a bit, but then decided to come back up. i did a 25% water change and it helped out quite a bit. i believe it will be just fine.
