Am I correct in assuming that a Skimmer (I use a Prizim) will provide additional Aeration the Tank?

New 46 Gal Tank now 5 weeks old. Small Golden-Brown alge bloom but that is normal from what I have read. The snails are starting to get rid of it. I need a few more to get ahead.

Am I seeing things or are the tiny bubbles comming from my live rock the final stage of Nitrates being convertied to gas? If so that's really very cool.

Everything going well, I added 2 clowns, 3 Astrea Snails, 2 Red Hermits and a Emerald crab (he makes such a mess)

Any good ideas on how I can clean up the mess he makes at the bottom of the tank? I have a Live Sand bed so I can't siphon without removing too much sand. Any good critter suggestions to clean up that mess?

What a great hobby!!!

The tiny bubbles could also be photosynthesis from diatoms or other algae on your rock.

When you say your emerald crab is making a mess, do you mean that he is rearranging your furniture, or do you mean that he's, umm, performing bodily functions?

Hermits should consume what your emerald is rearranging. If the stuff ripped loose decays, bristleworms should also (slowly) consume it.

Get your self 2 or three Large Turbo Snails and a Fighting Conch. They do all the cleaning I need in my 100 gallon. The snails and conch are about an inch plus in size. I don't have any problems and I have had them for a year now. I also have had this Spiny Starfish(mine is reddish orange) for a year. It is a great cleaner for rock and glass. I forgot to answer your question about the skimmer. There are people here that think the Prism is just an expensive airstone. I had one that worked on my 25 gallon for almost a year. Then the motor quit. Now I have another piece of crap skinner (the Seaclone 150)......which is a little better than the Prizm. Do yourself a favor and don't get one. My next skimmer will prpbably be the Aqua C Remora Pro. Have Fun!
