Help! Haven't done a nitrate test in a while in my 75 FO tank. did one today and got 80ppm. I'm assuming that this is resulting from a combination of the wet/dry filter and not having an R) unit. Going to do a large water change tomorrow but i have a silly question. Is all bottle water RO? I don't have a LFS so it either has to be tap water or something i can buy at the store.

Have plans for an RO but it will have to wait a month or so, did start adding LR on my way to converting to a FOWLR tank.
starting with 10# Fiji which is what prompted the nitrate test.

Yes, most bottled water is produced via R/O filtration.

...that being said, it wont do you any good. Pure water has very little "taste" to it, and people don't like that. The water distributor adds minerals (read: phosphates & silicates) to make it taste "better". So you're back in the same boat as treated tap water.

if you don't mind paying a lot for your water, you can always go for distilled water at your local supermarket.

Depending on where you live you might be just fine with main water for a fish only tank.

Each water supplier to required to post a water quality report which you can generally find online - might be worth taking a look at.

Thanks for the help, gonna due 30% change with bottled water this afternoon.
At what point does nitrate become a health problem, obviously zero is the goal but when do you get concerned?
