My tank is almost 1yr old and it had purple coralline everywhere. The ambient room temperature in the summer held the tank to 77 and all was perfect. Then winter came and I added a heater and raised the temp to 80 and that's when the coralline started to turn white. Is the growth of coralline dependent on temperature ? Or is my tank lacking something. Tank specs are 40gal hex with a lawnmower blenny and a yellow tang.

It's probably the lack of certain elements, especially earth elements like calcium. I suggest you start dosing with B-ionic two part supplement to bring back the depeleted elements. Dripping kalkwasser (limewater, aka Ca(OH)2) is also a good idea.

Test the ca level first to see if it is indeed the issue. Normal level is around 350-400ppm).
