Hi all, just wanted to get some suggestions for an easier to take care of anemone for my tank and maroon clownfish. I have a hood with Coralife 10,000K light, Liverock, Skilter filter, and powerhead, so which anemone would be the wisest choice. I only also have a couple of crabs, one shrimp and a coral beauty angel in the tank, so would they be safe with any anemone as well. Appreciate any and all suggestions!

What wattage light do you have? Is that a metal halide setup?

How big is your tank? How long has it been set up? What were your most recent water test results?

For the most part, host anemones are some of the most difficult to care for animals in the marine aquarium hobby. They require high light levels (minimum VHO or PC, most fare better under MH), pristine and consistent water quality (your skilter would be better served as a paperweight), and a good, well established tank that has been up and running with no problems for a year or more.

Sorry to sound so harsh, but anemones are really on the whole pretty tough to keep. I'd hate to see you get in over your head and become discouraged if/when the animal dies.

All that being said, a decent anemone for maroons would be a bubble bip anemone. They're relatively hardy, but still require great water quality and good lighting.

NP, I really hope I didn't come across sounding mean or anything. Just don't want you to get an anemone (or a series of them) and become frustrated and disappointed. :D

BTW, you guys get much snow up in ft wayne yesterday? We got about 4" on the south side of Indy. Today's ice and more snow on the way tomorrow. :D
