rearrange and add

We would like to add more live rock and rearrange our tank. At this time we have a 55 gal with 40 lbs live rock,5 chromis,open brain coral, star polyps and our clean up crew(6 hermits, 7 turbo snails, 2 emerald crabs, 1 arrow crab, and a pencil urchin)

1. We want to add more live rock from our LFS. This is were we got all of our original Live rock. They say it is cured. WHat precautions do I need to take before adding it to the tank?
2. We want to rearrange the tank as far as rock placement. Would it be best to take out all the animals in the tank or do I gently work around them.

We have a yellow tang that has been in the Q-tank for a week with at least 10 days left. I would like to have this done before we introduce him into our main tank.

If you believe your LFS that the rock is fully cured/cycled, then go ahead & just put it in your tank (assuming transport from store to home is fairly short).

No need to remove current inhabitants. The fish may attack your hands, but I doubt it. Just make sure you don't crush the snails, hermits, or urchin by mistake as you rearrange your rock .

Are you sure on the 17 days of QT? I thought it was supposed to be 21-28?

Thanks for the advice. Trip from the LFS is 5 minutes. As far as the Q- tank, this is actually the first time I have used it, so my expirience is rather limited. Thanks for the extra tip.

meinkfr - I have seen both cured and uncured rock being sold as "cured". If there is a significant amount of die-off on your new rock, you could be left dealing with some pretty nasty conditions in your 55 gal.
It's no problem to add cured rock after you add your tang. I would error on the side of caution and cure the new LR yourself.
I've got a great relationship with my LFS, but I still cure any LR that I purchase. I don't even ask if it's cured or not.
