Pardon the dumbass question

But do the float valves for RO/DI units just stop production and keep running waste water or are they supposed to shut everything down.

i made a home made shutoff for my 24 gpd kent maxxima but it kept producing waste water, i wouldn't mind if i wasn't on a water meter, that could get rather expensive.

i was thinking or splitting my RO/DI out put to tank top off and my 55 gallon water change trash can, has anyone done this, is it/isn't it feasible?

and yes it's a Monday and i'm already having trouble, LOL

Thanks

Anton

You need to have a ASO (auto-shut off) valve on the filter to shut off the input to the filter when the float switch close.

Without it , it is very wasteful.

Yep, you need more than just the valve to stop the product water from flowing. Kent Marine sells a Float Valve Kit for their RO systems. It uses a solenoid to close a valve before the water enters the RO canister and thus no waste water is produced.
