Does anyone have a really good picture of Aiptasia? Ive searched this forum but couldnt make out what was being referenced in some of the pictures. Does Aiptasia always have a stalk before the tentacles?

The reason for my question is in my new reef tank i have a bunch of things that look like round barnacles on my LR, no more than .5 in diameter with maybe 8 or so transparent/whitish tentacles around the perimeter, the tentaclees being maybe .5in long.

I wish i had a picture, maybe ill find a way to get a digital camera. Thanks for any help.

That a great pic, thanks. Hmmm, I'm thinking i don't have Aptasia because my "things" are not attached to a stalk, just a flat ring attached directly to rock.

Maybe it wouldnt hurt to pick up a few peppermint shrimp just in case .. ??

It could be another form of aptasia ther are different varities of these nasty little varments I have had some that sound alot like what your describing,if in doubt yank em now.You will be glad you did because as your system becomes more mature and stable they will multiply like freakin rabbits and can become a SERIOUS PROBLEM!

It couldn't be a small feather duster could it. They are very common on live rock and cause no harm. Just add a couple of peppermint shrimp regardless. They are neat to have and will eat aiptasia.
