TANK EXPLOSION

Folks, you won't believe this, I still can't! I'm the one that was almost about to quit due to an alge bloom that was kicking my butt. Well, I took alot of advise and with some time, patience, and work, my alge was GONE! I had put in a large clean up crew and my alge, all of it, was gone in a week. I was just about to start putting in a couple of new corals and hadn't gotten to the lfs yet. I came home for dinner and the next thing I know, KABOOM!!!!! My beautiful 92gal corner bow tanks bottom gave way all at once! Water, glass, sand, live rock, critters and two fish on the floor, furniture!!!! I'm heart broken. Before anyone asks, I'm not aware of any rock that fell and I hadn't been in the tank for a couple of weeks. I had a 3-4in sand bed so if something fell it should have been cushioned. All the time, money and work, down the tubes.

Oh my God.. I.. oh man.. That's AWFUL! I wonder if the stand was supporting it correctly. I am so sorry to read this. I've had a tank bottom blow on me, but I was testing my reseal with feeder gups, so besides the mess it was no big deal.

Yea, it was the craziest thing. Everyting was going just perfect and BOOM! You won't believe it but the manufacturer's being great about the whole thing and is paying for replacement and repair of everything! My mind tells me that there has been this problem in the past, a lawsuit, or is afraid of a lawsuit. Anyway, they are being really nice about the whole thing and I appreciate it a lot!

I really shouldn't say at this point because of the pending problem. All I feel I should say at this point is that they have been very cooperative.

This isn't the first time I've heard of tank manufacturers doing this.. I doubt its a common manufacturing defect sort of thing and they'd probably want you to let the world know that they're standing behind their product...

I am looking at a 92 gallon bow and wonder if anyone else has one and what the experience with them are, other than this one of course.

let me just say that if the manufacturer does what they say they will do, I will most definately let everyone know who they are. I will get a replacement for what I had and try once more. Better results hopefully!

What kind of floor was the tank sitting on? Hopefully not carpet.

My wife has been bugging me to move some of my tanks out of the house and into my shop, hope she doesn't hear about "tank explosions"!

That is just awful! It seems that everytime I read about a tank blow out it is a bow front tank

I bought a 54 gallon bowfront and was told that oceanic had discontinued selling this tank reef ready (holes drilled in the bottom). I was also told that all glass also discontinued it but I was able to buy an all glass (I don't think they stopped selling it). I did look at the design of the tanks and I believe the large unsupported area of the bottom is a problem. I suspect that they are on the border of being strong enough and drilling the holes in the bottom weakens the tank. Compared to a normal rectangular tank that has maybe 2 feet of unsupported bottom the corner tanks have 3-4 feet of unsupported glass. Also one other interesting item is I bought an all glass tank and an oceanic canopy and stand. The canopy from oceanic is made from the EXACT same pieces as the all-glass tank. Perhaps one OEMs it from the other. There is some tie between the two vendors....

Just to let you know it was a carpet floor. So far the damage is up to about $16,000. Not counting the live rock, sand, salt, test kits, ect. The money is still mounting. These statements about bow tanks is bothering me because I'm concidering getting another one. Has anyone else heard of the same thing happening to other corner bows?

I'd heard of someone here at RDO having flex problems with a bow not too long ago.. - That is, the top brace running to the middle of the bow was cracking/splitting, not the bottom bursting through..
