Hello,

I would like to ask for some advice regarding my new hippo tang. I bought him about 3 weeks ago (3 inches) and put him in my QT (good water from my main tank with 1.5 PPM Coppersafe). About 3 days after putting him in the QT, he broke out with crypt. I have had nothing but success in the past with the Coppersafe product but this time is different. I have done f/w dips and lowered the salinity in conjunction with maintaining the copper level as high as 2 PPM but nothing has been able to beat the parasites? They go away after the f/w dips but keep returning within a few days.

Any suggestions? I hate to leave this guy in my QT for another 3-4 weeks but he still has some fresh white spots.

Thanks in advance! -Bill

I suggest you go to the disease forum at ReefCentral and look at there faq on ick.

Lowering salinity when treating with copper is not advised. I have read that coppersafe is not particularly effective and I have always used cupramine. Lastly, freshwater dips are overrated when treating ick - might have some impact on some of the larger parasites that protrude from the skin but will have no impact on the parasites totally imbeded in the fish.

Might consider looking at advanced aquarist online there is a 5 part ick series by Terry Bartelme - heres a link to part 1 http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/ ... /mini1.htm

Hope this helps
