I am looking into lighting options for my 58 Gal Reef tank. However,
I like the look of my cap and would like to keep it on with whatever
lighting choices I make without having to buy a chiller. Is there anyway I can incorperate a 36" Aqualight pro with a 150 watt Metal halide lamp without heating my tank up? Is there anyone else who found a way around this problem? They say that heat also damages the lighting system. Oh...and I cant afford a chiller any other options?

Thanks,

Do you have a canopy? A small fan or two should help you out. Also, do you have a sump? A fan over the sump can do wonders for temp stability - even though it does increase evaporation.

You shouldn't have any heating issues with a single 150 watt halide and fans (as Righty suggested) over a tank that size.

Take care to use pumps that don't put a lot of heat into your system water as this can help avoid needing a chiller too.

Thanks both of you for your replies. I dont know what a canopy is, is that a another name for a cap?
I plan on putting in a 10 or 20 gal sump.
