Hmmm..... tanks been running for 3 months. No discernable nitrites or phosphates (test kits are new). I have two false perculas, a onespot foxface, a sixline wrasse, 40 blue legged hermits, 10 turbo snails, one sandsifting starfish, two peppermint shrimp, one coral banded shrimp and I just bought a lawnmower blenny for my problem.

The problem is this wierd type of green algae. It is not like the regular hair algae, but grows quite long and is bright :!: green. I have to pull it off the rock cause nothing else will touch it. Nothing will. I thought between my bluelegs, foxface and lawnmower I could watch it get eaten, but they won't go near it. It isn't everywhere yet, but springs up surprisingly only right around my corals and inbetween the individual polyps (zoo's, a ring around my favia and candycane, between xenia and around my colt and on the stalk of my frogspawn covering the little baby branches.

Any suggestions :?: I have one rock that is covered in brown hair algae (again, noone touches it) and neither algae seem to be spreading. How do I get rid of it. Again, no discernable nitrites or phosphates. I change 10% water a week, vacuum gravel at the same time, rinse sponges, and I don't use RO or any special water (this is Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and our water is great- most people here don't use any special water and don't have this problem) cause our water is free of phosphates, nitrates, and other badies. Believe me, I know US water can suck cause I have lived in Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, Michigan, etc and some places you don't even want to drink the water.

i had this green algae that was long and feathery and some people told me it was some kind of bryposis algae. i couldnt get rid of it no matter what i tried but after about 6 months it crashed on its own and i havent seen it come back again. maybe its only a matter of time? i hear algae goes crazy in the beginning for most people but it goes away in a year or less if you arent adding nutrients to the tank.

Your tank has not matured at only 3 months, that's why you are having alage problems. The more critters you put in that tank, the worse it's going to get until it matures on it's own. I know that's not what you want to hear, but you must have patience. Most phosphate test kits do not detect low amounts of Po4, so you can try some phosphate remover. It may help some. Have patience and good luck!

I kinda figured as much. Been through the diatoms already and reckon I'll have to wait out this as well. I have been running chemi-pure and phosban for two weeks, but guess the algae'll have to run it's course!
