Looking for Skimmer Recommendation

I am in the early stages of setting up a 75 gallon reef tank. I know I need a skimmer but the more I read about them the more confused I get. Do the downdraft models perform better? Are venturi models better than airstones? I am thinking about getting an Aqua C EV-120 or an Aqua Medic Turbofloater T1000 for placement in a sump. Can anyone give a recommendation for the skimmer, sump and pump? Also I am interested in joining a club in the NYC area (Queens, Manhatten, Brooklyn) if anyone knows of any. Thanks

I have a 75G tank and have been very pleased with the Lifereef skimmer that I have.

Euroreef skimmers are high quality and very popular as well.

I have to personal experience with aquaC's so I can not comment on them.

You are doing the right thing in asking questions like this before you spend the bread. Lots of folks buy cheap stuff then later replace it. You're better off getting the right stuff up front.

I have an AquaC ev120 on my 75 that I'm going to break down soon. This skimmer has been on it for 2 years, and has always performed well. I'd recommend it to anyone, the one's Louey mentioned are also good performers.

There are several high quality skimmers on the market, and I don't think you can wrong with any of them. Wanna know what everyone's favorite is...? Usually it's the one they are currently using!

I've had an AquaC EV-240 on my 180 for three years now. Me likey very much...I've very happy with the performance. However, I'm willing to bet I'd be just as happy with several other types of skimmers, as well. Good luck!

For a 75 gallon you could also look at a AquaC Urchin Pro with the Mag3 pump. It would handle a 75 with no problem and would save you 100+ dollars. I ran a Remora Pro(hangon model) on my old 75 for 3 years which was well stocked with fish and packed to the hill with corals and I never had one complaint.
