i have this blood red batch on the underside of some of my live rock that i recently acquired. it doesnt look like the other coraline alge that was on the rock so i was wondering if its cyano bacteria and whether its harmful.
it looks "slimy" if that helps. thanks

We need a picture. There is a species of Coralline Algae that looks and feels just like Cyano. I suspect that's what you have since it's underneath the rock but can't be sure.

Many new tanks have a bout with cyano in the first few months and then it may disappear for good. It can come and go, even in mature tanks. It's sortof a warning sign that your nutrient levels are getting high, but generally it's not tough to get under control. Usually increased skimming, better source water, good circulation, and control of nutrient inputs will beat it back...
