There's lots of ways, depends on whether you want to spend money on a product or go cheap. The one thing you need though is a syringe - feed stores sell them I believe, or if you know a diabetic, ask for one of theirs.

Inject it with any one of these:
boiling water
lemon juice
kalk slurry
Stop Aiptasia
Joe's Juice

Or if you want to try a peppermint shrimp you can, but it's hit or miss with them. Some eat them, others don't. They also have a tendency to snack on yellow polyps from time to time.

Boiling a cup of kalk in the microwave always worked best for me. Then I'd squirt it on them while it was still really hot. I never bothered trying to actually inject them. If you try that method turn all your pumps off first so it's not blowing all over the tank - works best if it sits on them for a while.

I've always had good luck with Peppermint shrimp too...

Kalk = kalkwasser = Calcium Hydroxide = Pickling lime

BTW- I also find it works best to drop a glob of thick slurry onto the top of the aiptasia, they curl up with the kalk and duck into their holes with it that way. I usually top off their hole with a little more afterward too.

That's how I've done the three or four I've picked up in my tank. Let it sit for a while--not sure how long it *needs* to sit, but an hour works for me--then remove it with a syringe or gravel vac or whatever, being careful not to get any on anything you want to keep. I've yet to see one recover from being dosed with kalk, and it's really simple to apply.

You can just as readily leave the kalk in place... it dissolves in time (releasing Ca and some alkalinity as CO3).

As I said... its all common names. People frequently call more than 1 thing by the same name.

Most people call rock anemones, flower anemones.

*shrug*

I have had an Atlantic flower anemone and I beleive majano would be considered rock anemone although I had a hard time researching this due to all of the confusion out there. This would make a good FAQ.

spsmike, some have called aipts flower anemone, and you and I and wade and lots of other people also know that Atlantic flower anemone ain't aipts, and sadly some still choose to call aipts flower anemone.

Heck, last trip to Northern Cal, a small pet shop owner labeled a goniopora as flower anemone as well...............

(sigh)

BTW, there are many other non-pesty anemone that are actually called rock anemone. And Believe me, Majano is no where close to the rock anemone that I know.

I apologize for "mislabeling" the anemone -sigh-. I did not know the name and I was describing what it looked like. It won't happen again. On a better note I got a few peppermint shrimp and they have eaten all of the <insert proper name> anemones.

You havnt done anything wrong. We kinda got sidetracked on the whole mislabeling deal.I was actually wanting to learn of a new anemone to add to my mental database of pest anemones.I have been reefing for years and there is always something new every week to learn about.Thats why this hobby is such a great one.
