When I had a problem keeping temp under control, I bought a small fan to blow across the top of the water and now the temp is rock steady at 78. Now I have usually have to add 1/2 gal water 2x day because of evaporation. With only 26 gal tank, if I'm not home for even a day, how do I keep sg from getting too high?

There are a lot of ways to replace evaporation water. Mine is automated with a couple of float switches mounted in the sump. These float switches control a receptacle. I have an 7G bucket in my stand that has a powerhead in it. The power head is plugged into the receptacle that is controlled by the float switches. The powerhead replaces the water automatically as it is evaporated.

If you don't mind replacing the water manually, you could do that without harming your tank's inhabitants. You might want to dump in a quart and wait a half hour then dump in another quart. I don't think you critters will mind this. In fact, they'll probably get used to it.

i go through about a gallon of water a day but i move alot of water from fuge to sump to tank and though closed loop lots of exposure, keep lids on your tanks helps alot and add your water slowly so it don't change your ph and other specs, watch your salt lvls...... remember salt doesn't evaporate
