I'm far from a new reef keeper or new to anemones but this may be a noob question. I'm just spectulating something...

I'm setting up my 30g to house a e. quad and a pair of clowns, that's it's main purpose. I have 3 VHO and a 175 14K. Now I'm thinking of adding more stuff. I've kept SPS before along with LPS and softies in a 90. I've also kept an e. quad anemone, mushrooms, LPS, and softies in my 30. What I want to do is keep an e. quad and SPS in my 30. Like m. capricornis and an acro or two.

My 175 in in the middle of my hood. So I figure the anemone (and I) will be happiest if he stays in the middle of the tank. I think I'd put the SPS on the sides. None of us will be happy though if the e. quad goes on the walkabout.

Anyone have success with an e. quad and SPS in a 3 foot tank? I was thinking of three rock towers. The middle for the anemone and mushrooms, and the side formations I'd put the sps along with glueing m. capricornis frags to the side and back glass. :?: Sound like a workable plan? Or do I have to come up with a few thousand to get my 90 galon up and running again?

Anemones are weird creatures in that they dont't always liek the spot with the most light. Id get the anemone first, then let him settle in and find his spot. After that Id get the SPS. :D

Yes, I agree that if you are going to got this route I would add the anemone first, let it get good and comfortable in it's chosen spot before adding any sps. It would be just terrible to watch a newly added anemone snuggle up to a nice M capricornis that was encrusted to a large rock so you couldn't move it out of the way. I think even with different rock mounds, he still might march over the sand or glass and go somewhere you don't want, so best to let him choose his spot and work around that. Knowing of course there is always some risk he may move again, but I have seen many mixed reefs with bubble tips where they stay put for very long time.

FWIW, I've done a Rose in a 36" reef before. It's workable, with the main problem being they move around initially. Add first, like everyone says, and you should be okay. I can't promise it'll stay there forever though :P
