The crab guilty for attacking my ricordia is "spider" looking, pink/tan with black claws. He's actually cool, but I prefer my corals. Are there any suggestions on how to get rid of it without killing it. I have hermit crabs as well...would I have to take them out in order to trap the "coral eater" since the hermits may get trapped as well????
Help please!!!!

You can devise a few types of traps. One is like a lobster trap where there is a funnel entry. The crab can get in but can't climb back out. THese can be made with a cylinder with one side sealed (a 1L bottle with the top cut off will do) and a funnel attached to the other side.

Another trap is to put bait in a nylon stocking. anchor it where the crab usually pops up and it should take the bait. Its legs will be tangled in the nylon mesh. It's worked in most attempts I've tried, but be prepared to catch all sorts of weird stuff on they nylon :)

Ultralife also makes a commercially available small trap. These have worked for me as well but are more finicky.

Once you catch it, take the thing outside and stomp it hard to make the crunch sound. It will make you feel better.
