I just wanted everyone to know about a problem that has ruined me from reef keeping! I bought a 92 gal corner bow front aquarium from All Glass Aquariums back in feb of this year. Two months later, the bottom blew out and destroyed my complete set up and most of my living room, not to mention, endangered my family who was in the room at the time. All Glass assured me that they would pay for ALL of my damages. After I sent them the bill they recoiled and denied any payment despite calling me and telling me that I was entitled to everything I submitted. I received a letter from the president of sales informing me that they weren't responsible despite me sending pictures of what happened to the tank, and doing everything they asked of me. These people lied and I just want everyone to know that if you have an All Glass Aquarium-BEWARE!!!

That's a risk that all of us deal with everyday, and I am in the EarthQuake Country here in California.

I will be surprised if they willing to pay for your livestock.

To be fair, almost all manufacturer only responsible for the product. For example, if a faulty wire cause a house fire, they will only pay for the cost of wire, not the whole house.

I would agree with what you said about most manufacturers but All Glass offered me to reinburse for all of my damages. They lied, plain and simple.

Sorry to hear that.
The lesson I take away from it is if you don't get it in writing, any promise is worthless.

You are very correct about the getting agreements in writing. That was my mistake! I trusted All Glass and they have left a bitter taste in my mouth through all of this. I know this may sound over the top but I haven't been able to even think about getting another aquarium. It just make me sick to think that all these years of dreaming of a real reef setup and all was ruined in a matter of a millisecond!

In their letter to deny payment they said that it must have been a piece of lr that broke the bottom. I find that about impossible considering I had a 4in sand bed and a low reef mound.

Ask them what would convince them that it was a fault with their product.

I will be very surprised if they let you get them that way. No company in their right mind will show you an Achille's Heel in such situation. The only thing that they may think of is to have a 24/7 video of an aquarium being packed and delivered from the factory, and have it filled up with water with at least two witnesses, and it break on the spot, and the water is tested to be chemically pure, as well as the stand is certified to be optically flat. You got the idea.

Paulg, I am truly sorry to hear that something like this happened to you. I really don't know what to say to help you feel that it is still a good hobby dispite that you were a victim. It is difficult for me to understand you since I am not in your shoes, but suffice to say that something comparible had happened to many of us.

A point I'd like to make here.

I've never had an issue with All Glass. They are still among the better manufacturers - when it comes to standard tanks.

However, when it comes to very large tanks, or non standard glass tanks such as bow fronts, hexes, etc., you could not force me to get one unless it costs 3x-5x the price of the nearest competitor. These type of tanks are significantly harder to make than a vanilla rectangular box of glass, and far more prone to manufacturer defects and variations. Christ, Krislin made some of the most durable standard tanks below 100gal on the market.

Yeah, All Glass seriously blew this one and is acountable. If they can't make a product right, they shouldn't make it. However, if you're getting a non standard tank, there's a reason the good ones cost such high prices.

I'm with blaster here. The non-standard tanks have always concerned me with their special construction and maintenance concerns.

But... I'm not really one to talk. I fell through a glass tank as a child, as a result, my large tank is acrylic... so that children bounce off in the event of running into it.

Good luck and all that,
J.

Can't you get legal advice on the matter? There must be a precedent...I would make allglass at least cover the cost of the tank, AND I would ensure much much more publicity than just Reef.org...if they made a verbal promise to cover the cost of everything, then they are still legally bound to that, aren't they?

Yeah, you have to have that promise in writing to make them pay. Just having some dude tell you on the phone isn't good enough.

I find this very interesting, but a few questions... 1. Was the tank level? If the tank was not level, your warranty is void, and AGA assumes no responsibility for anything that happens, Did you actually take a level to it and check it once it was fully loaded? 2. If this tank had the bottom "Blow Out" like you claim it did.. since when does tempered glass blow out, I've sold these tanks for 2 years or so, and AGA uses just tempered glass for the bottom pane, and know for a fact it wouldn't "Blow Out" it would spider fracture, and maybe the bottom cave it, but not "Blow Out" like a normal pane of glass does. 3. Your lucky AGA even heard your call, most companies would blow you off claiming it's your fault in the way the tank was setup. Let me know how things work out.

What type of stand were you using... i know someone that this also happened to... but his stand was an open top... if that makes any sense to you... so we are thinking that the simple force of the watter pusghing down was too much since there was no realy bottom support..
