Crush'd coral

Thought I'd already asked this, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

What's the recommendation on my 10 Gal nano? 8 lbs or 14.5 lbs? There will be 10lbs live rock.

Seems to me the crushed coral will also be an excellent source of Ca, no??

FYI, it is a myth that calcium substrate provide any significant source of calcium, both crushed coral, oyster shell (some of you know who I direct this to ) or aragonite sand.

The main purpose of the sand is to provide a place for the sand critter to live, while some people just leave the sand out of the tank (bare bottom) completely.

If you buy this green tropical plant (sand), it will provide you with oxygen (calcium) for your whole house (tank). Does plant takes in CO2 and give out oxygen? Yes it does. But you will be in real trouble if that's what you rely on for O2, unless, of course, you live in a biosphere or this lovely Earth (but not in a sealed container!)

What are you planning to keep Chucky? That's very helpful in deciding what substrate (or no substrate).

Well, I've seen whole shells disintegrate pretty quickly in my pH 6.0 Amazon tank...so I guesstimated that the crushed coral would go into the saltwater, helping the pH and hardness, and Ca as well....is there research that demonstrates what happens to water chemistry with CC?

It also seems that I may as well go with the 8lbs, giving me more water volume then...

Yes, it dissolve in your Amazon tank's pH, but if your saltwater tank's pH is 6, you are in deep poopoo.

It does provide some buffering and calcium, but only to very insignificant degree.
