Can anyone give me some advice on what I need to test for and a good test kit for my reef tank? I am moving my current 37 gallon reef system from a 37 gallon into a 75 gallon. Currently I am doing the basics...ammonia, nitrate, nitrite and PH. I am adding iodine and a calcium and PH supplement weekly. I've read so many articles on this, and there are many opinions. Thanks again for all your help.

Howdy Neighbor,

After the initial cycle I really only tested for calcium,,, and occasionally Alkalinity,,,,sounds like you've had a reef for a while so I would bet you have a good 'feel' for your tank and will be able to tell if anything is out of whack just by observing it,,, I think most reefers do this once their tank has been running a while.

I'm not sure why you're adding Iodine? With regular small water changes I don't think Iodine supplements are necessary,,, but if you are dosing it,, you should be testing for it,,, too much iodine can be real bad news.

What kind of Ca/PH supplements are you adding?

I'd carry on with your current testing regimen until your 75 gets settled. Maybe also get Ca and Alkalinity tests kit to make sure your supplements are maintaining the desired levels.

You all battened down for Jeanne, Juck? I just got my pond and yard back to normal on Tuesday...sheesh! Anyway, I was told that adding the Iodine is good for the mushrooms and many others. Since I 've been adding it my mushrooms have really taken off...much more colorful and multiplying well. Not sure if that was a coincidence or not...but it seems to be working. I'm using Ocean's Blend PH/Alkalinity and Calcium supplements. Thanks for your time, Saff
