A hippopus would do great anywhere in the tank with that lighting. A derasa or squamosa would probably do ok on the sand in the tank. I would keep a real close eye on them though. A crocea or maxima would have to be high in the rockwork to do really well.....

Hippo is not demanding when it come to light. They prefer low to moderate light.

I have half of that wattage in my 55 and my maxima is doing fine. He is on the rockwork about 4 inches from the surface. He is still a baby though and I WILL have to change to brighter lighting when he gets a bit bigger.

Thanks alot for all the help.Everywhere i read on this subject they stated MH or no clam.It would only be about 14" below the lights,so i need to go shopping :wink:

Since your name is TOOMANYFISH, you also need to watch out for fish compatibility with the clam you are considering.

440W should be fine, but I like MH better myself.

I have alot of fish but they are in my FW tank.In my SW tank i have 2 perculas;sailfin blennei;two spot bristltoth tang and 3 white molleis.
