Starboard from what i've read is like that plastic material used on cutting boards. thin but super tough. Only time is if you decide to go bare bottom(no sand). In case of falling rocks it'll protect glass.
Most commoly used as cutting boards. I does have other uses tho. Some use it in BB system to provide a bottom instead of clear glass or acrylic. Also, some claim it will protect the glass from a falling rock.
