Any opinions on those who have experiences with both? I plan on a mixed 120 including some tridacna clams and SPS.

Speaking in broad general terms you will have more die-off with any of the pacific rocks, because the shippers in LA don't have much control over what happens to the rock before they receive it.

Aquacultured rock is a renewable resource, this is a concern for some people.

I do have both, and the pacific is less dense, more porous, but the aquaculture rock had much less die-off and has better color.

Just my 2c.

I dig the aquacultered rock.

You should go for it.

Wish I knew about it when I started my tank

Hi all,
First post here.

Why not do half and half? You'll pay a little more in shipping but end up with a more interesting tank. You'll get multiple cycles. But you can start with the first shipment from TBS together with the Kaileni.

I like the aquacultured rock. The fact that it is a renewable resource appeals to the hippy in me, and I found it had much more life than any of the other rock I have purchased from various parts of the globe.

Now, it certainly does have more life in and on it, so you should expect to find a few "bad guys" and deal with them, but I think the rock is still well worth it. I was delighted with the variety of goodies on mine, brittle stars, sponges, funny little corals. There were a few aptaisia and I had to remove one mantis shrimp though.

Sometime I want to take a 20 gallon, fill it with aquacultured florida rock, slap a skimmer and some lights on and just let the thing grow into it's own little ecosystem. Some people even find hitchicker fish hiding in a hole in their florida rock 8O !

The TBS rocks are pretty much round chunks and that makes them harder to aquascape. I'm getting rid of all mine when I move next week. Too bad you don't live closer.
In my experience setting up my tank last year the rock that was shipped, even overnight DHL, had to re-cycle. But the rock I got from the LFS (while more expensive) caused almost no ammonia spike.
