Good Morning,

We have had our False Clowns for a couple of weeks and everything has been great, they look great, awesome colors, very active and feeding extremely well.

However, on Sunday Morning, we woke up to find one of the little guys gone... We checked the overflow, the sump, etc... He/She/It was no where to be found...

I tested for Nitrites/Nitrates and Ammonia right away and all levels were as follows:

Nitrite: 0
Nirtrate: 0
Ammonia: 0

We just had all our reagents tested as well...

The only real change to the tank was the addition of a couple new fish and a new coral...

The two new fish are - A Coral Beauty and a Blonde Naso Tang and they definatley were not aggressive to any tank mate, just the algea...

The new coral is a Galaxea sp. (Thanks to John_Brandt for the quick ID)

The other inhabitants are - False Clown, 2 Scooter Blennies, Gold Banded Shrimp, Brittle Star and Several Needle Snails...

This to me is very strange as all Corals and other fish are thriving and the growth and colors are unbelieveable....

Any ideas what happened to my little guy and should I try and locate him to remove the carcass or let the cleanup crew do the work?

Thanks!

Good Morning,

We we checked that as our tank has Glass Covers on it including the black cut aways at the back... So I am not sure if He/She/It could of actually jumped out and we did look just to make sure...

I'm puzzled... Water quality is still excellent...

Thanks!

I went through a phase with a loss of fish like that. One small juvy clownfish, and a neon goby. I am pretty sure it was one of the really ugly crabs I pulled out. The disapperance losses stopped.

The only advice would be to set some crab traps

if it did die in the tank, chances are that the brittle star and his clean up cohorts made short work of the corpse. you'd be surprised how quickly a dead fish can be consumed. a six line wrasse in one of my old nanos got the crap beat out of it by a pseudo and died. half the body was gone it 20 minutes.

Ok thanks!

My main concern was the quality of the water and I just finished testing again just to make sure none of the parameters started to creep overnight...

All levels were 0 so I think I am ok.... I hope...

Thanks for your input, we are just back into this, so we just act like we know nothing, it's safer to ask questions...

Cheers! :)
